New Delhi. Team India will take on Zimbabwe in the 3-match ODI series starting from Thursday (August 18) in Harare. Senior players of the team have been rested for this series. KL Rahul has been given the captaincy of this series. Under his leadership, the young team India will go down to compete against Zimbabwe. There have been many occasions in 12 months when two different Indian teams have played two different series at different places.
In July 2021, when the Virat Kohli-led Test team was in England, Shikhar Dhawan took charge of Team India for 3 ODIs and 3 T20 Internationals against Sri Lanka. Earlier this year as well, when Rohit Sharma and Co were preparing for the Edgbaston Test, Hardik Pandya led a team in two T20Is in Ireland. Fielding multiple teams at different locations at the same time has become a new norm in Indian cricket and BCCI secretary Jay Shah has already said that this will happen more often in the future.
Kaneria did BCCI praise of
Former Pakistan spinner Danish Kaneria has appreciated this special strategy of BCCI. In his new YouTube video, he said that India’s talent pool has allowed him to send a ‘B team’ to Zimbabwe for ODIs. Kaneria said, “There is talk of forming two Indian teams because they have so many players that it becomes difficult to accommodate all of them in one team. Zimbabwe is a Test playing country and they play impressive cricket, but despite this India has sent a second line team for the series.
BCCI giving chance to new talent
He further said, “We saw that earlier this year also when many Indian players were in England, then a different Indian team played a white ball game in Sri Lanka.” Kaneria suggested that repeating what India has done will not be an easy task for other countries. He told that the BCCI is giving opportunities to new talent by fielding two different teams at a time.
Kaneria said, “If they have two teams then it will definitely have a big impact on world cricket. No other country has talked about having two teams and I don’t think they will be able to do that. Pakistan also has a lot of talented players, but they are not getting enough opportunities.
He said, “India, on the other hand, is giving opportunities to its players. No matter where they came from. Not so with Pakistan. They could have sent new players for the series against Netherlands and Shan Masood should have been the captain.”
