New Delhi. Former India cricketer Gautam Gambhir has criticized New Zealand’s performance in the final of the T20 World Cup. In the final, Australia defeated the Kiwi team by eight wickets. The Kiwi team had set a target of 173 runs in front of Australia, thanks to 85 runs from captain Kane Williamson. Australia achieved this target with seven balls remaining, losing two wickets. All New Zealand bowlers proved to be laggy in the final.
Gautam Gambhir wrote in his column of the Times of India, “After India (for the T20 World Cup) my favorite team was New Zealand. But it was not nice to see him playing like this. New Zealand’s team is such that it completely believes in planning. There the important roles of the players are already decided and they field them in the same manner with precision. Had I been a supporter of New Zealand, I would have demanded a refund of my ticket money in the second half. His performance was not worthy of the final.”
Gambhir, who made KKR twice IPL champions under his captaincy, said, “They batted very well and scored 172 runs at the loss of 4 wickets. Often defending such a score is not that difficult as New Zealand have a very good bowling attack. But they didn’t look like the kind of team that beat England in the semi-finals and India in the group stage before that.”
