Glenn Maxwell’s fifth half-century and his 73-run partnership with AB de Villiers helped Royal Challengers Bangalore beat Punjab Kings by six runs in the 48th match of IPL 2021 on Sunday to make it to the playoffs. Bangalore made a challenging total of 164 for seven in 20 overs, while the Punjab team, despite being in good condition at one time, could only manage 158 runs for six wickets.
Bangalore thus won their eighth match in 12 matches and entered the playoffs with 16 points. Chennai and Delhi have already made it to the playoffs. Punjab, on the other hand, suffered their eighth loss in 13 matches and are now fifth in the points table with 10 points. Punjab will now hope that they win the last match and the other results also favor them, so that they can make it to the playoffs as the fourth team.
In this match, Bangalore got a brilliant start of 68 runs by their openers captain Virat Kohli and Devdutt Padikkal, but after this Moises Henriques took the wickets of Virat, Daniel Christian and Padikkal in a span of five runs. Virat hit two fours and a six in 25 off 24 balls, while Padikkal hit four fours and two sixes in 40 off 38 balls.
After this, Maxwell and de Villiers put on 73 runs in 39 balls for the fourth wicket. De Villiers was run out in the 19th over by Sarfaraz Khan with a straight throw. Mohammed Shami sent Maxwell, Shahbaz Ahmed and George Carton to the pavilion in the last over of the innings. Shami took three wickets for 39 runs and Henriques took three wickets for 12 runs. This performance by Henriques is the best performance of his career.
