His coach planned to joke with Virat. Pradeep told News24, ‘We were playing in an Under-17 match in Punjab. He (Kohli) was not able to score big in the last 2-3 innings. Our coach then was Ajit Chowdhary who used to call Virat ‘Cheeku’.
Pradeep Sangwan further said, ‘Virat was the main player of our team and Ajit sir jokingly suggested – let’s tell Virat that he will not play in the next match. We all got involved in this mischief. Ajit sir did not announce Virat’s name in the team meeting. He went to his room and started crying. He called sir and said that I have scored 200 and 250 runs. To be honest, he had scored big in that season but yes he struggled in the last 2-3 innings. He got so emotional that he even called up Rajkumar sir (Virat’s childhood coach).
Completely distraught, Virat reached out to this Delhi fast bowler and asked him about his shortcomings. Virat told that he could not sleep the whole night because of this. Sangwan said, ‘Then, he came to me and asked, ‘Tell me, what happened? I have scored so many runs this season. I told him, ‘Yeah yes, that’s very wrong!’. He couldn’t even sleep through the night. He said, ‘No, I don’t want to sleep. What’s the point of sleeping when I’m not playing?’ Then, I told him that he was playing in the next match. It was all part of a prank.
