Hockey India: Hockey India will give cash prize to men and women’s hockey team for each victory


Bhubaneswar. Hockey India on Sunday announced its new policy under which annual cash incentives will be given to both men and women team members and support staff. According to this policy, Hockey India will give Rs 50,000 annually to the players of both men’s and women’s teams and Rs 25,000 to the support staff for each win.

Hockey India President Dilip Tirkey said in the release, “I am sure this announcement will boost the morale of the Indian teams as they are currently preparing for the World Cup and the Asian Games. While every player in the core group is employed, such incentives will attract more youngsters towards hockey.

Hockey India also announced Rs 2 lakh to each player and Rs 1 lakh to the support staff of the Indian junior team that won the title in the 10th Sultan of Johor Cup. Dilip Tirkey has recently become the Chief of Hockey India and he is coming up with new policies regarding the players and their interests.

India won the Sultan of Johor Cup on 29 October
India has won the Sultan of Johor Cup title. In the final, Team India defeated Australia 4-3 in the shootout. Under-21 teams take part in the Sultan of Johor Cup. This is India’s third title. Earlier the team had won this tournament in 2013 and 2014. With this victory, India’s junior team also avenged the defeat against Australia in the final of Birmingham Commonwealth Games earlier this year. Australia beat India 7-0 in the men’s hockey final of the Birmingham Commonwealth Games.
