Home ministry will take decision regarding India participation in Champions Trophy 2025 in Pakistan: Anurag Thakur

A major cricket tournament will return to Pakistan after more than two decades. ICC Champions Trophy 2025 will be held in Pakistan. Pakistan will have a major ICC tournament after 29 years. The last time 1996 World Cup matches were played there. But now he will be hosting an ICC event alone for the first time. But now the question is starting to arise whether India will go to its neighboring country Pakistan to participate in the Champions Trophy 2025. However, it is difficult for India to boycott the ICC event. But it is not yet decided whether India will play the Champions Trophy in 2025 or not.

After getting Pakistan to host the Champions Trophy 2025, India’s Sports Minister Anurag Thakur has also made a statement on this matter. He has said that the decision to participate in the Champions Trophy 2025 in Pakistan will be taken by the Ministry of Home Affairs. Times Now quoted Thakur as saying, “When the time comes, the Government of India and the Ministry of Home Affairs will decide on going to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy.” Many countries have withdrawn from visiting Pakistan due to security reasons. We will then assess the security and take a decision. In the past too, many countries have refused to play in Pakistan due to security concerns. As you all know many players were also attacked while playing there and this is a big issue which needs to be dealt with.

No major team has toured Pakistan since the attack on the Sri Lankan team in 2009. Recently England and New Zealand refused to play in Pakistan. The last bilateral series between India and Pakistan was played in the year 2012 when Pakistan toured India. Since then these two countries play against each other only in ICC events and Asia Cup.
