Huawei and Guangdong Unicom’s 5G “Digital Fishing Boat” project recently won the 2023 GSMA “5G Productivity Challenge Award”. In this project, both the companies are installing 5G networking gear on fishing boats to improve connectivity for people working at sea. The project claims that the connectivity through this will give seafarers access to high-speed internet as well as cloud computing, IoT (Internet of Things), Beidou positioning technology.

Huawei has Informed It is expected that through the Digital Fishing Boat project, fishing boats will be able to monitor dynamic weather in the sea. The boats will come with the 5G MetaAAU Ultra Large Scale Antenna Array, which provides various benefits from its large bandwidth of the 3.5G frequency band.

It is also reported that it can also maintain a stable 60 Mbps download speed and 2 Mbps upload speed within a range of 61 kilometers in the sea.

This new digital fishing boat will allow fishermen to stay up to date with news, get the latest weather information and even make high definition video calls to their families. The company says that through this, fishermen will also get the benefit of seeking help through a one click app to get emergency help while in the water.
