The International Cricket Council (ICC) on Wednesday announced the players nominated for the T20 Player of the Year award in the men’s category, which includes two wicket-keeper batsmen and two all-rounders. England’s Jos Buttler, Sri Lanka’s Wanindu Hasaranga, Australia’s Mitchell Marsh and Pakistan’s Mohammad Rizwan have been nominated for this coveted award for their stellar performances in T20 cricket in 2021. Butler has won 14 matches in this calendar year. He has scored 589 runs at an average of 65.44, including a century and dismissing opposition batsmen 13 times as a wicket-keeper.

Buttler finished the tournament as England’s leading run-scorer after scoring 269 runs in the recently concluded ICC T20 World Cup in the UAE. On the other hand, Sri Lankan bowling all-rounder Hasaranga took 36 wickets in 20 matches at an average of 11.63 and scored 196 runs with the bat, including one half-century. He also ended his T20 World Cup campaign as the highest wicket-taker with 16 wickets and played some stellar innings with the bat, including 71 against Ireland.

Australian all-rounder Marsh has scored 627 runs at an average of 36.88 in 27 matches this year and also took eight wickets at 18.37. Pakistan’s star wicket-keeper batsman Rizwan was also excellent this year.

Rizwan has been the highest run-scorer in T20 International cricket this year by scoring 1326 runs in 29 matches with a century at an average of 73.66. At the same time, he contributed in dismissing the opposition batsmen 24 times as a wicketkeeper. Rizwan played a key role in Pakistan reaching the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup. He was the tournament’s third highest run scorer.
