Returning to his best form, former Indian captain Virat Kohli has managed to return to the top five in the latest ICC ODI rankings released on Wednesday (January 18) after scoring 283 runs in three matches against Sri Lanka with two centuries. Kohli now has 750 points, due to which he is in fourth place. He will now be eyeing to go past second-ranked Rassie van der Dussen (766 points) and third-ranked Quinton de Kock (759 runs), while Pakistan captain Babar Azam remains at the top with 887 points.
Virat Kohli will have a chance to narrow the gap in the ongoing three-match ODI series against New Zealand. Among Indians, Shubman Gill, Mohammad Siraj and Kuldeep Yadav have also moved up the rankings. Shubman Gill scored his first century in the series against Sri Lanka and scored 207 runs at an average of 69, gaining 10 places to reach 26th position.
The former Indian skipper won the ‘Player of the Series’ award for his impressive performance against Dasun Shanaka’s side in the third and final ODI, scoring two centuries including an unbeaten 166. Kohli is followed by Australia’s flamboyant opener David Warner with 747 runs, three points behind the Indian ‘run machine’ in fifth place.
Mohammad Siraj was the highest wicket-taker in India’s 3-0 series win with nine wickets, making him a jump of 15 places to third in the list. In this way, Siraj achieved the best rating of his career, he has got 685 points. He is behind Trent Boult (730 points) and Josh Hazlewood (727 points).
Kuldeep Yadav also got the benefit of five wickets in just two matches against Sri Lanka. The left-arm spinner has gained 21st position with a gain of seven places.
