Indian skipper Virat Kohli’s childhood coach Rajkumar Sharma is disappointed with Indian batsman Shreyas Iyer not being picked in the upcoming T20 World Cup squad. Iyer is included in the list of India’s standby players for the T20 World Cup and there is a demand to include him in the main team. Iyer has done exceptionally well with the bat in the second phase of IPL 2021 so far and Virat Kohli’s coach feels that it will be great if Iyer returns to the T20 World Cup squad and he deserves it. He has scored an unbeaten 47 and 43 in the first two matches of the second phase for Delhi Capitals. Earlier, there were reports that Delhi Capitals batsman Iyer may be included in the main team as a replacement for Ishan Kishan as Kishan has not been performing well in the second phase of IPL 2021.
Rajkumar Sharma said about Iyer on the podcast of YouTube channel ‘Khelneeti’, ‘It is unfortunate that Shreyas Iyer is not in the main team (T20 World Cup team). He was a vital part of the Indian team and then became unfit due to an injury. To exclude them is certainly a bit unfair. I think he should have been in the team. So now, if he makes a comeback in the Indian team, he totally deserves it.
Let us tell you that till October 10, all the countries have a chance to make changes in the team selected for the T20 World. In such a situation, we Indian team also have a chance to make some changes in our team. Apart from Iyer, many former cricketers are constantly raising questions on keeping experienced players like Shikhar Shikhar and Yuzchendra Chahal out of the team.
