The Test series was played for the first time in the year 1947 between India and Australia. It was hosted by Australia and India had to face defeat 1-4 in the 5 test series. After being reduced to just 36 runs in the second innings in the first match, India defeated Australia for the second time in a row at home, winning 2–1 under the captaincy of Ajinkya Rahane after regular captain Virat Kohli returned.
