New Delhi. The Bangladesh cricket team suffered a major setback against India when its captain Tamim Iqbal had to be ruled out of the ODI series due to injury. Team India has reached Bangladesh (IND vs BAN) for the 3-match ODI and 2-Test series. The ODI series between the two teams will start from Sunday (December 4). Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has announced the new captain two days before the ODI. Opener Liton Das will now captain Bangladesh in the ODI series.
Liton Das is the 15th ODI captain of Bangladesh
Liton Das has been made the 15th captain of Bangladesh in ODIs. Experienced opener Tamim Iqbal has been ruled out of the ODI series due to groin injury. Earlier, Liton captained Bangladesh in 2021 T20 cricket against New Zealand last year when the team’s regular captain Mahmudullah was injured.
‘Liton Das has leadership qualities’
When Shakib Al Hasan left the captaincy of the Test team, after that Liton Das was given the responsibility of vice-captain in the Test. In such a situation, the role of leadership is not new for him. BCB Cricket Operations Chairman Jalal Yunus said in a statement, “Litton is an experienced player in our team. He has proved his leadership quality. He has a good understanding of the game. It is unfortunate to lose Tamim before this series due to injury. Under his captaincy, the team has played excellent cricket in the last few years. He has been our best batsman in this format. He will be missed.
Explosive innings was played against India
Liton Das is the same player who played a blistering inning against India in the recently concluded T20 World Cup. He attracted everyone’s attention by playing an explosive inning of 60 runs in just 27 balls. 28-year-old Liton Das is counted among aggressive batsmen.
