IND vs ENG 1st ODI: Jasprit Bumrah is not happy even after record breaking performance, reason given himself

New Delhi. India registered a thumping 10-wicket win over England in the first ODI at The Oval. With this win, India took a 1-0 lead in the 3 ODI series. Jasprit Bumrah bowled brilliantly for India. He took 6 wickets giving 19 runs in his ODI career best performance. This is the best performance by any Indian bowler in England. Due to this deadly bowling of Bumrah, England’s innings was reduced to 110 runs. This is England’s lowest score in ODIs against India. The opening pair of captain Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan achieved this target without losing any wicket in 32 overs.

Bumrah was adjudged the player of the match for his performance. Not only Indian legends, former England players also praised Bumrah fiercely. Former England captain Nasser Hussain said during the commentary for Bumrah that he is the best bowler in all three formats in the current era. Despite this, Bumrah is not very happy about his performance. He also disclosed the reason for this in the press conference held after the match.

I take praise and criticism in the same way: Bumrah
Bumrah said, “It’s a good day so everyone is praising it. I am neither happy with praise nor disappointed by criticism. As a bowler, I only focus on the things I have in my hands. I do not take people’s words, whether they praise or criticize, very seriously. I don’t let success and failure dominate my mind. Every day is different in cricket. So I try to keep myself steady. It helps me a lot to do better as a bowler.”

‘I only focus on the process, not the result’
This Indian pacer further said, “I like to live in the present. There is a lot going on outside about you. There’s a lot of noise. So in such a situation, it can cause confusion. That’s why I just focus on evaluating my game and work hard on recognizing my shortcomings in every match. I work on my practice, diet and fitness. After this, whatever the result, good or bad, I accept it. This keeps me stable as a player.”
