IND vs ENG 2nd ODI: India’s top order flopped, England won the second ODI and equalized the series


New Delhi. The England team defeated the Indian team by 100 runs in the second ODI (ENG vs IND 2nd ODI) on Thursday, thanks to their bowlers. In this match played at the historic Lord’s ground in London, England’s innings was reduced to 246 runs in 49 overs but the hosts managed to defend the target. The Indian team was all out after scoring 146 runs in 38.5 overs. With this win, England leveled the 3-match series 1-1. The third and deciding match of the series will be played on Sunday, 17 July at Old Trafford, Manchester.

Indian captain Rohit Sharma won the toss in this match and invited England to bat first. England team managed to post a respectable score of 246 runs thanks to the innings of Moeen Ali and David Willey. Leg spinner Yuzvendra Chahal took 4 wickets. After this, Reece Topley broke the back like Indian batting. He sent Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan cheaply to the pavilion while Suryakumar Yadav was bowled. Virat Kohli once again missed out on playing a big innings. Topley .. for a run .. took the wicket. David Willey, Brydon Cars and Moeen Ali got 1-1 wickets.

Chasing the target of 247 runs, India had a poor opening and lost 4 wickets for just 31 runs. In the third over of the innings, Rohit Sharma was dismissed lbw by Reece Topley, who could not even open the account. Topley also sent Shikhar Dhawan (9) to the pavilion. He was caught by Jos Buttler. Dhawan scored 9 runs in 26 balls with the help of 1 four. Wicket-keeper batsman Rishabh Pant could not even open the account while Virat Kohli once again returned cheaply to the pavilion. He scored 16 runs in 25 balls with the help of 3 fours.

After this, Suryakumar Yadav and Hardik Pandya added 42 runs for the 5th wicket. Suryakumar was bowled by Topley on the second ball of the 21st over of the innings. He scored 27 runs in 29 balls with the help of 1 four and 1 six. Moeen Ali got Hardik Pandya caught by Liam Livingstone. Hardik faced 44 balls and scored 29 runs with 2 fours.

Earlier, India bundled out England’s innings for 246 runs in 49 overs due to the excellent performance of the bowlers led by leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal. Chahal took 4 wickets for 47 runs. Hardik Pandya and pacer Jasprit Bumrah also took 2-2 wickets. Moeen Ali and David Willey put on a half-century partnership for England, which helped the team recover from the odd conditions and put up a respectable score.

Moeen scored 47 runs while Willie took advantage of 2 lives and played an innings of 41 runs. Both shared a 62-run partnership for the 7th wicket. Moeen also added 46 runs for the sixth wicket with Liam Livingstone (33). Opener Jonny Bairstow scored 38 runs. Bairstow and Jason Roy (23) faced the new ball pair of Bumrah and Mohammed Shami (1 for 48), who took nine wickets in the first ODI to bundle England out for 110.

Roy hit the first four of the innings on Shami and then hit fours and sixes in this fast bowler’s over. Roy was lucky to score 23 runs in the eighth over when Bumrah dropped his catch on his own ball. However, Jason Roy could not take advantage of the lifeline and Pandya’s poor ball was played directly in the hands of Suryakumar Yadav at deep backward square leg. After the dismissal of Jason Roy, Bairstow took the lead. After hitting a four on Chahal, he also hit two fours on the famous Krishna.

Jonny Bairstow, however, got bowled in the 15th over of the innings in an attempt to play a slog sweep off Chahal. He hit 6 fours while facing 38 balls. Chahal took Joe Root (11) leg before in his next over, while Shami bowled Jos Buttler (4) to make England 87 for 4 wickets.

England’s Test captain Ben Stokes (21) hit 2 fours on Chahal but missed the straight delivery of the same leg-spinner and became leg-behind. Liam Livingstone (33) hit the first six of the innings at long on off Chahal. England’s century of runs was completed in the 21st over. Livingstone also hit sixes and fours off consecutive deliveries of Pandya but the next ball of the same fast bowler was played in the hands of substitute player Shreyas Iyer at deep square leg. He faced 33 balls and hit two sixes and two fours.

Moeen and Willie then took over the innings. Willie was lucky on a personal score of one run when Krishna dropped his catch off Pandya’s delivery. Both Moeen and Willie hit six sixes on Krishna. Pandya gave second life to Willie on the score of 24 runs and this time the unfortunate bowler was Shami. In this 40th over of Shami’s innings, England’s double century of runs was also completed. Moeen hit his second six off Bumrah but Chahal returned to the bowling and got him caught by Jadeja and ended his 62-run partnership with Willie. Moin faced 64 balls and hit 2 sixes and two fours.

David Willey hit a six on Bumrah but was caught by Iyer in the same over. He hit 2 fours and 2 sixes in his 49-ball innings. Bumrah ended England’s innings by bowling Reece Topley (3).
