New Delhi. England beat India by 100 runs in the second ODI at Lord’s to level the 3 ODI series 1-1. India got a target of 247 runs in this match. Chasing this, Team India could not even play the full 50 overs and was bundled out for 146 runs in 38.5 overs. Once again Virat Kohli started well. But, he missed out on playing a big innings. He again repeated the old mistake and hit the ball outside the off-stump and was caught behind the wicket. In the last few years, Kohli’s form has become a matter of national debate. Veterans like Kapil Dev have started thinking of dropping him from the team. After the way Kohli got out in the second ODI against England, then this debate will intensify. However, captain Rohit Sharma has come to his rescue for the second time in four days.
After losing the second ODI against England, Rohit Sharma was asked a question about Virat Kohli’s poor form in the press conference, then he said, why these things are happening. I do not understand. “He (Kohli) has played so many matches. He has been playing for so many years. He is such a great batsman, he doesn’t need any assurance. I had said the same thing in the last press conference as well. Form comes and goes, it is a part of any cricketer’s career. So players like Kohli, who have been playing for so many years, scored so many runs, won matches. He only needs one or two good innings, that’s my thinking and I’m sure people who follow cricket would have the same thinking.”
Rohit defends Kohli for the second time in 4 days
This is the second time when captain Rohit Sharma has openly defended Virat during the limited overs series in England tour. However, Rohit also admitted that Virat is going through a bad phase. But, the Indian team management still has full faith in him. Rohit said, “We also talk on this subject. However, before talking about this topic, we should also think a little. We have seen that the performance of all the players goes up and down, but the quality of the player is never bad. We all should take note of this. The guy (Kohli) has scored so many runs (he has scored so many runs), look at his average, how many centuries he has scored, he has (huge) experience to do that. Bad phase comes in the life of every player, it happens even in personal life.
Kohli could not play a big innings after a good start
Kohli came out to bat in the third over due to Rohit’s dismissal for zero in the Lord’s ODI against England. He had to wait for 8 balls to open his account. But, he opened his account with a four on a straight drive. After this, he expressed the hope of playing a big innings, hitting two fours in two consecutive balls of Reece Topley. But, on the score of 16 runs, he was caught out in an attempt to play the ball going far outside the off-stump.
