IND vs ENG: Will Virat Kohli play the 2nd ODI against England? Know what is the update

New Delhi. All is not well with Virat Kohli. In one way he is struggling with form, on the other hand injury has increased his problems. Kohli missed the first ODI against England due to a groin injury and is now likely to be out in the second ODI as well. According to media reports, his injury has not improved. In such a situation, he will not be able to play in the second ODI at Lord’s. Kohli was injured while fielding in the third T20 match played in Birmingham.

In the first ODI held at Kennington Oval, Shreyas Iyer got a place in the playing XI in place of Virat Kohli. However, Shreyas did not get a chance to bat, as the pair of Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan achieved the target of winning by adding an unbeaten 114 runs for the first wicket. Despite being out of the first ODI, Kohli came with the team to the Kennington Oval and was seen sitting in the dressing room. But, he did not take part in the warm-up. No official update has been issued yet regarding Virat playing in the second ODI.

Kohli had a chance to regain form
Kohli’s injury comes at a time when he is battling poor form and questions are being raised about his place in the team. Now he seems to be out of the second ODI as well. In such a situation, he has very few matches left to make a place in the T20 World Cup team. India has to go on West Indies tour after England. On this tour, India has to play T20 series along with ODIs. Virat has been rested from the ODI series. He also sought a break from the T20 series. But, this final decision has not been taken yet. If he is rested for the T20 series as well, then he can directly appear in the Asia Cup and the 3 T20 series against Australia.

In such a situation, Kohli will have very few matches to return to form before the T20 World Cup. He had a good chance of returning to form in the ODI series against England. But, now that too seems to be going out of hand.

Kohli’s performance in ODIs has been fine
Kohli may seem to be struggling in T20s and Tests. But, his form in ODIs is not that bad. He has scored 2 half-centuries in his last 6 innings of ODIs. In such a situation, he can regain his lost form through ODIs, as he will have time to regain his rhythm in this format. However, due to the injury, this hope also seems to be dimmed.
