Three fours and as many sixes… The way Washington Sundar played the band of Kiwi bowlers, hardly anyone would have expected this from him. Washington plays as a bowling all-rounder, but looking at his innings, it seems that he has worked a lot on his batting as well. Everyone was stunned by the shot he played on the fifth ball of the 49th over. Washington collected four runs with a scoop shot off Matt Henry and lost his balance in the process of playing this shot, due to which he fell, but still added four runs.
Washington hit sixes off Tim Southee, Adam Milne and Matt Henry. At one time it seemed that Team India would not be able to go beyond 280 runs, but on the basis of this innings of Washington, India scored 306 runs for seven wickets in 50 overs. Washington shared a 46-run partnership with Shreyas Iyer. In this match for India, Iyer played a fine inning of 80 runs and he was the best scorer from India. Captain Shikhar Dhawan scored 72, while Shubman Gill scored 50 runs. Whereas Sanju Samson contributed 36 runs.
Tim Southee and Lockie Ferguson took three wickets each from the Kiwi team. After the Indian innings, Sundar said about his innings that he has worked a lot on his shots and he is also working hard on his batting.
