Venkatesh Iyer made his T20 International debut for Team India in the first match of the three-match T20I series being played between India and New Zealand. Venkatesh Iyer had a stellar performance in the UAE leg of IPL 2021. He scored a lot of runs with the bat as an opener for KKR. Apart from this, Iyer also impressed with his bowling. In this series, Team India has rested many senior players including Virat Kohli.
Rohit Sharma has been given the captaincy of the T20 team. While Rahul Dravid has been made the new head coach of Team India. Iyer played for Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL-2021, scoring 370 runs in 10 matches at an average of 41.11, which included four fifties. During this his strike rate was 128.47. Iyer was with Team India in the recently concluded T20 World Cup. In the first T20 match being played at Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur, India won the toss and decided to bowl first.
