Bhubaneswar. Players of the Indian and South African cricket teams reached Odisha on Friday amid tight security for the second T20 International match to be held at the Barabati Stadium on June 12. Both the teams reached the Biju Patnaik International Airport in Bhubaneswar at around 2 pm and hundreds of cricket fans were there to welcome them. Cricket lovers were desperate to catch a glimpse of their cricket stars on both sides of the road, outside the airport, their hotel and on their way to both places. In the T20 series (IND vs SA), the visiting team has made a great start. In the first match, South Africa got a big win by 7 wickets. The record of Barabati Stadium is also not in favor of Team India.
Members of the Odisha Cricket Association (OCA) welcomed the players at the airport. They were taken to the hotel in special buses amid tight security. Before the match on Sunday, Director General of Odisha Police SK Basal along with senior police officers and the district administration took stock of the arrangements at Barabati Stadium. Basal told reporters that all arrangements have been made to provide foolproof security to the players, smooth conduct of the match on Sunday and practice on Saturday.
Competition will be held after 5 years
Team India is going to play a T20 match after 5 years at the Barabati Stadium in Cuttack. The last match was played between India and Sri Lanka in December 2017. In this match, India got a big win by 93 runs. India had scored 180 runs for 3 wickets while playing first. KL Rahul scored the highest 61 runs. In reply, Sri Lanka’s team was dismissed after scoring 87 runs in 16 overs. Leg spinner Yuzvendra Chahal took 4 wickets for 23 runs. Hardik Pandya also took 3 wickets.
Team India has played 2 T20 matches on this ground overall. In one he has won, while in one he has lost. His only defeat came from South Africa in 2015. In such a situation, once again the African team will come with a psychological edge. Batting first, the Indian team was reduced to just 92 runs in that match. 7 batsmen could not reach the double figures. Rohit Sharma and Suresh Raina scored 22-22 runs. Fast bowler Albie Morkel took 3 while Chris Morris and Imran Tahir got 2 wickets each. In reply, South Africa achieved the target for 4 wickets in 17.1 overs. JP Duminy remained unbeaten on 30.
