IND vs SA T20: KL Rahul’s The. Test of captaincy against Africa, 4 players are ready to take place if they miss

New Delhi. Everyone’s eyes were on KL Rahul’s captaincy in IPL 2022. He even took the newly launched team Lucknow Super Giants to the playoffs. But, in the end, he missed and could not get the team the title. This is now a thing of the past. Now KL Rahul has a bigger challenge as a captain. He has to captain Team India in the 5 T20 series against South Africa starting from June 9 in the absence of Rohit Sharma. Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah have also been rested for this series. In such a situation, the challenge in front of Rahul as a captain is big.

If KL Rahul’s performance as captain in the T20 series remains poor, then he hardly gets a chance to captain Team India in future. Because 4 players in the form of Rishabh Pant, Jasprit Bumrah, Hardik Pandya and Shreyas Iyer are already standing in the queue to assume the responsibility of captaincy.

KL Rahul will have to prove his worth as a captain in the 5 T20I series against South Africa. He captained the Indian team in the ODI series against South Africa earlier this year. India was completely wiped out by South Africa in this series. However, then Virat Kohli was present in the team to help him. But, now he will have to fight this battle alone.

Selectors will keep a close eye on KL Rahul
A member of Team India’s selection committee told InsideSport, “This is a great opportunity for KL Rahul to prove himself as a captain. In the name of senior players, they have only Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Hardik Pandya. In such a situation, it will be a real test for KL Rahul as a potential Indian captain. I would not say that he will be under pressure. But, one thing is certain that the selectors and BCCI will definitely keep a close eye on his performance as captain in this series.

Why would KL Rahul be under pressure as captain?
As captain, KL Rahul will be under pressure during the 5 T20I series against South Africa. The reason for this is his performance as captain on the tour of South Africa this year. KL Rahul had captained Team India in a total of 4 matches on the last South Africa tour. He captained the Indian team in the second Test against South Africa in Johannesburg due to the injury of Virat Kohli and Team India had to face defeat in it. After the Test series, a series of 3 ODIs was played between the two countries. In this series too, KL Rahul took over the command of the Indian team. But, Team India lost all three matches. That is, under the captaincy of KL Rahul, India has not won a match so far.

KL Rahul being seen as the captain of the future
Even in IPL, his record as captain is not very good. He has captained 42 matches for Punjab Kings and Lucknow Super Giants in the league. Out of this, only fifty percent matches have been won. It would not be called good under any circumstances.

KL Rahul was criticized for his captaincy on the last tour of South Africa. He did not use the bowlers properly throughout the series and he proved to be laggy in setting up the fielding as well.

Regarding this, the member of the selection committee said, “Look, in the tour of South Africa, there was a new responsibility for him. Taking charge of Team India and captaining an IPL franchise is quite different. He made some mistakes in the first series as captain, but he must have learned from it. Now his performance will be tested in the South Africa series. I am sure he will do well.”
