Indian wicket-keeper batsman Rishabh Pant made a significant contribution to the team with the bat in the first innings of the first Test against Sri Lanka at the PCA Stadium in Mohali. He scored 96 off 97 balls and missed out on scoring his fifth Test century of his career by just four runs. Pant played his innings at a time when the team was in dire need as wickets were falling continuously from the other end. The Indian wicket-keeper batsman hit nine fours and four sixes during his innings. However, he had to suffer five nervous nineties for the fifth time.

Pant equals Gavaskar’s record

With this, Pant has equaled a record held by great batsman Sunil Gavaskar. Pant has been the victim of nervous nineties for the fourth time at home and in this case he has equaled Gavaskar. Gavaskar was also a victim of the Never Nineties a total of four times in his Test career at home. Sachin Tendulkar is at number one in terms of getting out for the most nervous nineties in Tests at home.

Pant has so far scored four centuries in Test cricket, while he has also been dismissed five times in nineties. He has been a victim of Nineties twice in 2018 and thrice in 2021. Former captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni was also out on nineties five times in Test cricket as an Indian wicketkeeper. Pant has also equaled Dhoni in this matter.
