The first ODI between India and West Indies will be played on July 22.
India’s star player got injured before this match
Injured player may be out of 3 ODI series
New Delhi. The first ODI of the 3-match series between India and West Indies will be played in Port of Spain on Friday (22 July). The Indian team will enter this series in the absence of players like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Rishabh Pant. The command of the team will also be in the hands of Shikhar Dhawan. In such a situation, the young players will have a good chance to prove themselves. However, even before the first ODI, Team India has suffered a major setback. The team’s star all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja has been injured. Jadeja has been made the vice-captain of the team for the ODI series. But, he is injured. Because of this, he did not even participate in the indoor practice session of the team.
It is not yet known how serious Jadeja’s injury is, but the way he did not take part in the practice session, his chances of playing in the first ODI look slim. Team’s Shikhar Dhawan has also pointed in this direction. In the pre-match press conference, Dhawan gave an update on Jadeja’s injury. He told that the Indian all-rounder has a knee injury and how deep is his injury, the BCCI medical team is assessing it.
Jadeja may be ruled out of ODI series
According to the Cricbuzz report, the BCCI does not want to take the risk in view of the T20 World Cup, so Jadeja can be rested from the entire ODI series. So that the injury of his left knee does not increase further. If Jadeja is rested for the entire ODI series, he could be fit for the five-T20 series against the West Indies starting July 29.
Who will be the vice-captain of Team India?
Jadeja’s injury has also created a problem in front of the Indian team management. He has been made the vice-captain for the ODI series. In such a situation, if Jadeja is out of the ODI series, then a new vice-captain will have to be chosen in his place. However, BCCI can leave this decision to coach Rahul Dravid. Senior players like Yuzvendra Chahal and Shardul Thakur are present in the team.
Meanwhile, BCCI President Sourav Ganguly has revealed that KL Rahul, who is completing his rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy, has tested positive and is unlikely to take part in the five T20I series against West Indies. KL Rahul recently had hernia surgery in Germany. He is currently training at NCA to gain fitness.
