Cape Town. India’s star wicket-keeper batsman Richa Ghosh believes that if her team has to present a tough challenge to Australia in the semi-finals of the T20 Women’s World Cup, then they will have to score at least 180 runs. India may have lost 1-4 in the five-match series against Australia in December, but they put up a tough fight in all the matches. The team led by Harmanpreet Kaur would like to repeat the same performance.
Ghosh, who has been India’s best performer so far in the World Cup, said, “Australia feel comfortable chasing because they have depth in their batting. We would love to do the same but nobody has control over the toss. So whatever the situation may be, we have to go through it. We have prepared our strategy for this match.
He said, “We do not know how the pitch will behave tomorrow but it is looking good now. If all our batsmen walk, then we can set a target of around 180 in front of them. If we bowl first, we will try to restrict them to 140 to 150 runs because they have good batsmen.
Ghosh, who played the role of a finisher for India, said about her game, “Ups and downs keep coming and even I have gone through them but I took a lesson from him that how you can deal with the situation. When I go out to bat, I deal with pressure better than before.”
‘The world will not end if Jasprit Bumrah doesn’t play 7 matches with Jofra Archer’
India’s recent record against Australia hasn’t been good but Richa Ghosh believes the Meg Lanning-led side is beatable. In the last 22 months, Australia has lost only one T20 International match. He got it in the super over at the hands of India. Five-time champion Australia is still unbeaten in the tournament.
Ghosh said, “Australia can be defeated. We beat them in our last series and we have beaten them before as well. His team is strong but we can beat them. We are trying to strengthen our mindset. Everyone has their own different game, but the team that remains mentally strong will win. We are working on it.”
