India new head coach Rahul Dravid says Have worked closely with most of boys and know their potential to do better


New Delhi. The Cricket Board of India (BCCI) has appointed former captain Rahul Dravid as the head coach of the Indian men’s cricket team. Dravid, who is serving as the head of the National Cricket Academy (NCA), has been appointed to this position for two years till the 50-over World Cup to be held in India in 2023. He will take over the position from the upcoming home series against New Zealand starting on November 17. The announcement of Rahul Dravid as the head coach of Team India was highly expected, as the legendary batsman was persuaded by the top officials of the board.

According to a BCCI media release, “The Cricket Advisory Committee of Sulakshana Nayak and RP Singh on Wednesday unanimously appointed Rahul Dravid as the head coach of Team India (Senior Men’s Team). The former Indian captain will take over the position from the upcoming home series against New Zealand.

‘I am ready for this responsibility’
After becoming the head coach of Team India, Rahul Dravid said, “It is a great honor to be appointed as the new head coach of the Indian cricket team and I am ready for this responsibility.” He also thanked his predecessor Shastri for his role in taking the current Indian team to this point. “The team has performed very well under Shastri’s guidance and I hope to take this forward while working with the team,” he added.

He is the second highest run-getter in Test matches after Sachin Tendulkar, with 13,288 runs and 36 centuries in 164 matches. He has about 11,000 runs (10,889 runs) in 344 ODIs. He has played an important role in making the module of change in Indian cricket.

He has been closely watching the progress of the U-19 A teams and then the entry of players into the senior team. Rahul Dravid said, “Having worked closely with players in the NCA, U-19 and India A teams, I know they have the passion and desire to improve every day.”

He talked about his goals, which include good performances in the T20 World Cup in Australia and the 50-over World Cup in India in 2023. “There are going to be some big tournaments for multiple teams in the next two years and I look forward to working with the players and support staff to achieve the goals that we can afford,” he said. His former Indian captain and current BCCI President Sourav Ganguly is expected to take the Indian team to the next level.

The 47-year-old Dravid, who played for India legend, was the first choice of BCCI president Sourav Ganguly and secretary Jay Shah, who spoke to him in Dubai to persuade him to apply for the position. After Dravid’s application, the BCCI did not need to look into any other application. His salary will be around Rs 10 crore which is the highest amount paid to any coach in Indian cricket history. The BCCI had invited applications for the post on October 26, as the tenure of outgoing Ravi Shastri ends after the ICC T20 World Cup.
