Birmingham. India will face Australia on 29 July in the opening match of the women’s cricket competition of the Commonwealth Games 2022 (Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games), while the final will be played on 7 August. The organizers made this announcement on Friday. Women’s cricket is going to make its debut in the Commonwealth Games in T20 format. The last time cricket was played in the Commonwealth Games was in 1998 in Kuala Lumpur. Teams of India and Pakistan will also face each other in the games.
The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) said in a statement, ‘Women’s cricket competition will be held in Edgbaston from 29 July. The matches for bronze medal and gold medal will be played on August 7. The first match will be played between India and Australia in the opening session on 29 July, after which Pakistan will take on Barbados, who have recently confirmed West Indies as the participating team in the competition.
India and Pakistan will clash on July 31
India vs Pakistan match will be played on 31st July. The team will play the last match of the group against Barbados on 3 August. Australia and Pakistan will meet on 3 August. Hosts England will play their first match from the qualifiers on 30 July. Qualifiers will be played in early 2022. England will then take on South Africa on 2 August and New Zealand on 4 August. The schedule of netball was also announced on Friday itself.
8 teams divided into 2 groups
A total of 8 teams are participating in the games. They are divided into 2 groups. India, Pakistan, Australia and Barbados are in Group A. On the other hand, in Group B, hosts are England, South Africa, New Zealand and the qualifier team. The qualifiers are yet to be decided. Top 2 teams from each group will go to the semi-finals. The semi-finals will be played on 6th August and the medal matches on 7th August.
