A mutual agreement attached to this donation to the institute was signed by Nilekani and Subhasis Chaudhuri, director of IIT Bombay. With this donation, the institute will be on its way to becoming a global leader, Chowdhary was quoted as saying in the release. Earlier, Nilekani had given a grant of Rs 85 crore to the institute.
Shiv Nadar, founder of another big software company HCL, topped the list of most generous people in the country last year with an annual donation of Rs 1,161 crore. The daily donation from Nadar was around Rs 3 crore. Last year there were 15 such persons in the country who had donated more than Rs 100 crore. Azim Premji of IT company Wipro was in second place in this list. His annual donation was Rs 484 crore.
