New Delhi. The road to the playoffs for Mumbai Indians (MI) in IPL 2021 has become more difficult. Delhi Capitals (MI vs DC) defeated Mumbai by 4 wickets in the match held in Sharjah on Saturday. After this defeat, Mumbai Indians have moved to the seventh position in the points table. The team has 10 points in 12 matches with 5 wins. In such a situation, to remain in the race for the playoffs (IPL 2021 Playoffs), Mumbai will have to win the remaining 2 league matches in any case. Captain Rohit Sharma is not happy with Mumbai’s batting. He blamed the batsmen for the loss against Delhi.
After losing the match against Delhi, Rohit said that we are not playing according to our ability. That’s why we haven’t reached the playoffs yet. He said that if your batsmen do not score runs, then it becomes difficult to win the match. I personally accept it. We haven’t been able to execute our strategy, and that’s certainly disappointing. We are not playing to our potential. Hopefully, in the remaining two matches, we will be able to play according to our identity.
We couldn’t even score 140 runs: Rohit
Rohit further said that we knew that this (Sharjah) would be a difficult venue. We have seen a lot of matches and it is not an easy place to play and score a lot of runs. We had prepared well and we knew what to do. I think we didn’t bat well. We knew it was not a 170-180 wicket, but it was not a 140 either. We just couldn’t make good partnerships.
Mumbai Indians have 2 league matches left
Batting first in this match, Mumbai scored only 128 runs in 20 overs. Barring Suryakumar Yadav (33), none of the Mumbai batsmen could play a big innings. Due to this the team could not make a respectable score. Avesh Khan and Akshal Patel took 3-3 wickets for Delhi in the match. Now Mumbai’s next match is with Rajasthan Royals on 5 October. After this, the team will take on Sunrisers Hyderabad on 8 October.
