IPL 2021: Avesh Khan selected as a net bowler in team India’s squad for T20 World Cup

New Delhi: T20 World Cup is starting from 17th of this month. The Indian team for this tournament has been announced. But in view of the good performance of some Indian players in the IPL, they have been attached to the T20 World Cup team for a special purpose. Meanwhile, Delhi Capitals fast bowler Avesh Khan has been asked by the Cricket Board of India (BCCI) to stay in the UAE after the IPL and join India’s T20 World Cup team as a net bowler.

Second bowler after Malik

The 24-year-old Avesh is the second fast bowler after Kashmir’s stormy fast bowler Umran Malik to be asked to join the team. If BCCI sources are to be believed, this fast bowler can get a place in the list of standby players till the start of the World Cup on Sunday. India will start its campaign against Pakistan on 24 October.

A BCCI source close to the selection committee told PTI on Tuesday, “The national selectors have decided to rope in Avesh as well. Right now he will be included as a net bowler but if the team management feels then he can be included in the main players. Avesh is capable of bowling at a fast pace and has so far picked up 23 wickets for Delhi Capitals in the ongoing IPL season, which will take on Kolkata Knight Riders in the second qualifier on Wednesday.

Passion in the race for the Purple Cap

Avesh is second in the list of highest wicket-takers along with Harshal Patel (32 wickets). “Avesh bowls at an average speed of 142 to 145 kmph, gets good bounce even from flat pitches and has been closely watched by the support staff for some time now,” the source said. Avesh also went to England as a standby with the Test team but had to return mid-tour due to a fractured finger during India’s warm-up match against the combined county team.

This player will be the cover of Hardik Pandya

Hardik Pandya will meanwhile be associated with the Indian team as a batsman while Venkatesh Iyer will be his cover. All-rounder Hardik is likely to play as a pure batsman in the T20 World Cup as he is not in a position to bowl as of now. It is learned that budding Knight Riders opener and fast bowler Venkatesh Iyer has been asked to stick to a biologically safe environment as cover.
