Chennai Super Kings (CSK), one of the most successful franchise teams of the Indian Premier League (IPL), have made it to the IPL 2021 playoffs. For the first time in IPL 2020, this team led by Dhoni failed to reach the playoffs. Before the start of the 2021 IPL, some former cricketers had predicted about CSK that this team would not be able to reach the playoffs once again. Aakash Chopra, Gautam Gambhir and Sanjay Manjrekar had said in their predictions about the teams that CSK would once again be out of the race for the playoffs.
Aakash Chopra had said that CSK would not make it to the playoffs, Gambhir had said that CSK would be at number five, while Sanjay Manjrekar had said that he does not think that the team will be in the top-4. Dhoni-led CSK, proving all these predictions wrong, have confirmed their place in the first playoff in IPL 2021. CSK has played a total of 11 matches so far, out of which 9 have been won, while the team has to face defeat in two. CSK have not lost a single match in the second phase of IPL 2021 so far.
The journey of 2021 IPL was made by CSK with a defeat against Delhi Capitals. Then it seemed that CSK would once again repeat the story of the 2020 IPL, but after that the team made a comeback. The two matches that CSK have lost have been against Delhi Capitals and Mumbai Indians. Dhoni said after the match, ‘It (reaching the playoffs) means a lot, because last time after the match I said that we want to come back strong. We learned a lesson from him.
