The 2020 IPL was nothing short of a nightmare for CSK and the Mahendra Singh Dhoni-led side became the first team to be knocked out of the playoff race. This season, Dhoni showed why he is considered one of the best captains in the world. CSK has become the first team under Dhoni to reach the playoffs in IPL 2021. CSK have won 9 out of 11 matches. In the first phase of IPL 2021, CSK had to face defeat at the hands of Delhi Capitals and Mumbai Indians, but in the second phase so far this team has been invincible. After CSK’s six-wicket win against Sunrisers Hyderabad on September 30, Dhoni said reaching the playoffs meant a lot to the team. Dhoni said that all the players and support staff have played a big role in taking the team to this point.
Dhoni said after the match, ‘It (reaching the playoffs) means a lot, because last time after the match I said that we want to come back strong. We learned a lesson from him. Full credit to the players and support staff. Dhoni gave credit for the victory over Sunrisers Hyderabad to the bowlers who allowed the opposition team to score 134 runs for seven wickets. Dhoni said, ‘It was not a wicket on which the ball was taking more turn or coming to a halt. The bowlers changed their pace and length well. That’s what I said before the match and he executed the strategy well.
Sunrisers Hyderabad captain Kane Williamson said that if their batsmen had taken the responsibility and scored good runs, the result would have been different. Williamson said, ‘We had not scored enough runs. Despite this, we gave a tough fight. At the end of the powerplay, we were close to 40 runs. With the help of the lower middle order batsmen, we reached a slightly respectable score. He said, ‘We have to see how to win the match. CSK played a good game but in the end we were 10-15 runs behind. Again we could not register a victory in our name.
