Delhi Capitals fast bowler Avesh Khan will have to stay in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) after the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 ends. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has asked Avesh to join Team India as a net bowler for the T20 World Cup. The final match of the IPL is to be played on 15 October at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. Before Avesh, Sunrisers Hyderabad fast bowler Umran Malik has also been included in Team India as a net bowler for the T20 World Cup. The T20 World Cup is to be played in UAE and Oman from October 17. India has to play its first match against Pakistan on 24 October.
A BCCI source told PTI on Tuesday, “The national selectors have decided that Avesh Khan will be included in the team. Right now he will get a team place as a net bowler, but later he can also become a part of the main team. Avesh has taken the most wickets in IPL 2021 after Harshal Patel. “Avesh normally bowls at a speed of 142-145 kmph. The bounce he gets on flat wickets, he troubles the batsmen. The support staff has been keeping an eye on him for some time now.
It is also believed that Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) all-rounder Venkatesh Iyer will also be asked to stay in the UAE. Venkatesh can be included in Team India as cover. Hardik Pandya will be associated with Team India, but he will play as a batsman, due to fitness, he is still rarely bowled.
