Dubai. The Steering Committee of the Indian Premier League (IPL) decided on Tuesday that the last two matches of the league round (IPL 2021) will start at the same time at 7.30 pm (Indian time). Generally one match of double header is played in the afternoon and the other in the evening. According to the rules till now, the afternoon match starts at 3:30 pm Indian time, while the second match is played from 7.30 pm. Both the matches will be played together in the evening to prevent unfair advantage of either team.
“For the first time in the history of IPL, the last two league matches before the IPL 2021 playoffs will be played together,” BCCI secretary Jay Shah said in a release. According to the schedule, Sunrisers Hyderabad face Mumbai Indians in one of the last two matches and Royal Challengers Bangalore face Delhi Capitals in the other. “Instead of having one afternoon match and one evening match on October 8, the last day of the league phase of the current season, both the matches will be played simultaneously from 7.30 pm onwards,” he said.
The fight will be seen in media rights
The two new teams joining the IPL will be announced on October 25, after which the media rights tender for the 2023 to 2027 season will be floated. It is understood that existing rights holders ‘Sony’ and ‘Zee’, which recently merged with Star Sports, will also bid with a huge amount.
The final of IPL 2021 is to be held on November 14. The team of defending champion Mumbai Indians has not been able to perform as expected so far. The second round matches are being played in UAE from 19 September.
