Another season proved to be bad for the former IPL champions Rajasthan Royals. After three consecutive defeats, Rajasthan’s team is out of the race for the playoffs of IPL 20021. The team had to win the last match against Kolkata Knight Riders on Thursday to stay in the race for the playoffs, but the team was bundled out for just 85 runs and suffered a humiliating defeat. Three players from Rajasthan could not even open their account. These include Yashasvi Jaiswal, Anuj Rawat and star all-rounder Chris Morris. Morris was bought by Rajasthan in this year’s auction for Rs 16.25 crore. Morris is the most expensive player ever in IPL history, but he has failed to do well for Rajasthan in IPL 2021. He has scored only 67 runs in 11 matches this season and has taken 15 wickets. Meanwhile, former India captain Sunil Gavaskar has slammed Morris K for his poor performance.
Gavaskar said on Star Sports, “When Rajasthan picked him, there were high expectations from him and I know it is not always possible to live up to those expectations. He is just like that cricketer who has always promised but rarely delivered in his entire cricket career. It is not just about this IPL. When he played for South Africa, there were a lot of expectations at that time too, but he could not live up to the expectations.
Gavaskar believes that Morris has not been able to use his full potential, mainly due to lack of temperance. He said, ‘Maybe there are fitness or temperament issues because often you have talent but don’t have temperament and it doesn’t help you. You may succeed in odd games but if you want to be successful consistently, your temperament and talent must match.’
