Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) head coach Brendon McCullum has admitted that the team expects more runs from captain Eoin Morgan. However, he said that he is not too worried about the shortfall. The coach also said that he is confident that he will be back in form. Kolkata had to face defeat in a thrilling match at the hands of Punjab Kings on Friday itself. KKR captain Morgan has scored just 17 runs in 4 innings in the UAE League in IPL 2021. He has not crossed the 10 mark in a single match.
“He is one of our senior players,” McCullum said. He is one of our international batsmen and he himself thinks about contributing more and more runs in his mind. I think he has captained the team well but there is no doubt that you want some more runs from him. You need runs from your overseas players, especially in crucial moments. I am sure he will be back in form. Some players are in really good form.
KKR had missed out on their sixth win of the season on Friday. They had suffered a five-wicket defeat against Punjab Kings, making their way to the playoffs a bit difficult. What is a matter of concern is that KKR skipper Morgan has scored 109 runs in 11 innings so far this season with an average of 10.98 and a strike rate of 100.92. While several franchises have changed their captains due to low runs, KKR have insisted that Morgan will continue in his role.
Coach McCullum feels Morgan has captained the side brilliantly, while some other factors are also working for the KKR skipper. In fact, given the fact that the franchise has England analyst Nathan Lyman working with Morgan, KKR cannot afford to change the captain and want the relationship to continue till the end of the tournament.
