New Delhi. In the 45th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2021), Kolkata Knight Riders were defeated by Punjab Kings (PBKS beat KKR) by 5 wickets. Batting first, Kolkata scored 165 runs in 20 overs. In reply, Punjab achieved the target three balls in advance. It is clear from the score that this match ended in a very exciting way, but during this match there was a moment when there was a dispute over the decision of the third umpire. Actually, in the 19th over of the match, Rahul Tripathi caught the catch of KL Rahul and the KKR team started celebrating but the third umpire gave him not out. Former cricketers and commentators Gautam Gambhir, Akash Chopra and Irfan Pathan also raised questions on this decision of the third umpire.
On the third ball of the 19th over, KL Rahul played a pull shot and the ball went towards midwicket. Rahul Tripathi dived forward and caught the ball and on a crucial occasion, Punjab captain KL Rahul was looking out. But the third umpire declared him not out. The third umpire believed that while catching the ball, Rahul Tripathi’s fingers were not under the ball. The ball hit the ground and hence KL Rahul was declared not out.
Gambhir-Pathan stunned by third umpire’s decision
Former cricketers Gautam Gambhir and Irfan Pathan were surprised as soon as the third umpire gave KL Rahul not out. Aakash Chopra also raised question marks on the decision of the third umpire. According to Gautam Gambhir and Irfan Pathan, KL Rahul was out and Akash Chopra had the same opinion. KL Rahul was given not out, then Punjab needed 15 more runs at that time. Rahul also hit a four on the last ball of the same over. If this decision had gone in the favor of KKR, then the result of the match could have been in his favor as well.
Talking about the match, captain Rahul scored 67 for Punjab, Mayank Agarwal scored 40 runs. In the final moments, Shahrukh Khan played an unbeaten 22 runs in 9 balls to give Punjab a sixth win. After this win, Punjab is still in the race for the playoffs and has reached number five in the points table. At the same time, Delhi’s team has qualified for the playoffs. Now there is a fierce competition between Bangalore, Punjab, Kolkata and Mumbai for the third and fourth place.
