The final match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 is to be played on 15 October at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. Exactly 10 days later, it will be decided that which team will win the title of IPL 2021. Three teams (Delhi Capitals, Chennai Super Kings, Royal Challengers Bangalore) have cut their tickets for the playoffs and now there will be a close contest between Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), Rajasthan Royals and Mumbai Indians for the fourth number. Punjab Kings’ exit from the playoffs is almost certain, while Sunrisers Hyderabad have been out of the race long ago. Rajasthan Royals is the only team whose fate is in its own hands and it will not be affected by the results of any other team.
Mathematics of reaching the playoffs of Rajasthan Royals
The equation is simple for Rajasthan Royals, they will have to beat Mumbai Indians in today’s match and then KKR on 7th October. Currently, Rajasthan Royals have 10 points in their account with five wins in 12 matches, while Mumbai Indians also have the same number of points after the same number of matches. Rajasthan Royals is ahead of Mumbai Indians in the points table in terms of better net run rate. KKR have 12 points in their account after 13 matches. If Rajasthan Royals lose against Mumbai Indians, they could be out of the race for the playoffs despite a win against KKR.
