Fast bowler Umran Malik, playing for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), has created a flutter in his only two Indian Premier League (IPL) matches. Umran, who holds the record for bowling the fastest ball of IPL 2021, said that he bowls fast from the beginning. He said that he bowled fast to divert the attention of the batsmen. Apart from this, he also gave credit to former India all-rounder Irfan Pathan for improving his bowling.
Talking to Bhuvneshwar Kumar on the IPL website after the match, Umran said, “From the very beginning, I bowl fast. When I used to play cricket with Cosco ball, I used to bowl fast. We used to play one-over matches and I used to bowl yorkers while bowling fast. The U-19 trials took place in 2018 and when I bowled, the selectors caught sight of me. I was bowling in joggers shoes, then a friend of mine gave me spike shoes and then I came in the U-19 team.
Umran further said, ‘Then I came in the Under-23 team. I have been practicing continuously since 2018. After U-23, I got a chance to play Ranji and Vijay Hazare Trophy. I thank the SRH franchise team that I got the opportunity to play with them. Irfan Pathan helped me, he told me in which area I need to work. In the nets, when I had to bowl to Kane Williamson or David Warner, I was scared at first. After that I kept learning and it helped me.
