IPL 2021 Shaun Pollock feels CSK must give Robin Uthappa a chance in place of out of touch Suresh Raina

New Delhi. Former South African fast bowler Shaun Pollock said that Chennai Super Kings need to consider Robin Uthappa in place of Suresh Raina. Suresh Raina, the third highest scorer in IPL history, has faced an unusual decline in the league this year. He has scored only 160 runs in 11 innings at a disappointing average of 17.77 with just one half-century. CSK are not known for tinkering with their game combinations too much. In such a situation, the team has decided to go with Raina. However, a big score is yet to come out of this experienced player’s bat.

Meanwhile, with 189 IPL matches and 3544 runs, Robin Uthappa has been sitting on the bench for the entire season of IPL 2021. In such a situation, Shaun Pollock said in a conversation with Cricbuzz, “I wonder if they will give a chance to Robin Uthappa? CSK is a team that does not like to make big changes. The longer this goes on, the more you think they can’t make changes for the knockouts unless they do it sooner or later. I am sure he will be eager to go ahead, but if he keeps winning, he would like everyone to play a great game.”

Meanwhile, batting is not the only concern for Suresh Raina, he has not performed much on the field as well. Raina retired from international cricket in 2020. He had gone to UAE for IPL 2020, but withdrew his name for personal reasons even before the tournament began.

This means that the 34-year-old did not play the game for a long time at the professional level. In this edition of the IPL, he was seen playing, but he did not look as quick as before. Pollock said, “He has not been able to find his touch. Looks like he must have been a little busy. He no longer looks as sharp as we are used to seeing him. Brilliant fielding over the years, contributing with our off-spin and getting the ball off the ground, we haven’t seen it this time. No wonder they promoted him to No. 3.”
