Sunrisers Hyderabad defeated Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) by four runs in the 52nd match of the Indian Premier League 2021 on Wednesday to dent their hopes of making it to the top two teams in the points table. After three consecutive wins, RCB’s defeat has almost ensured Delhi Capitals and Chennai Super Kings’ top two positions. In this match, Hyderabad had scored 141 for seven in 20 overs after playing first, in response to which Bangalore team could score only 137 runs in the allotted overs.
For Hyderabad, the economical bowling of Umran Malik (1 for 21), Siddharth Kaul (1 for 24), Bhuvneshwar Kumar (1 for 25) and Jason Holder (1 wicket for 27 runs). Earlier, a fine performance by the bowlers led by pacer Harshal Patel and Dan Christian restricted RCB Hyderabad to a score of 141 for seven.
The Hyderabad batsmen failed to put up a big total against the effective bowling of Harshal Patel (3 for 33), Christian (2 for 14) and Yuzvendra Chahal (1 for 27). Ahmed and Mohammad Siraj, while bowling economical, conceded 21 and 17 runs in four and three overs respectively but they did not get any wickets.
Apart from Jason Roy (44) and captain Kane Williamson (31), no batsman could play for Hyderabad. Both also shared a 70-run partnership for the second wicket. The Hyderabad batsmen could only add 50 runs in the last eight overs. RCB captain Virat Kohli won the toss and invited Hyderabad team to bat.
