The new IPL franchise Ahmedabad is all set to make Hardik Pandya as its captain. He is likely to be officially announced as the captain on Saturday, as Saturday is the last day of the deadline given to sign players for both the new IPL teams.
This move by the franchise will not only secure an all-rounder’s place in the team, but will also fulfill the franchise’s intention of associating itself with the local Gujarati identity.
Besides Gujarat-born Hardik, the CVC-led Ahmedabad group has also signed Afghanistan’s star leg-spinner Rashid Khan for a similar fee of Rs 15 crore. The amount spent for Rashid as the second player is above the standard price slab.
The franchise has decided to spend an additional Rs 4 crore from their own pocket for him. He had earlier refused to continue as a second player with his former team Sunrisers Hyderabad.
According to Cricbuzz, the third player from Ahmedabad could be Indian Test team opener Shubman Gill, who can be bought for Rs 7 crore.
