Royal Challengers Bangalore kept their playoff hopes alive as they beat Gujarat Titans by 8 wickets in their last league match on Thursday night. In this do or die match, Virat Kohli’s bat, known as the run machine, roared fiercely against the bowlers of Gujarat. Kohli, who was battling poor form in IPL 2022, played a match-winning innings of 73 against Hardik Pandya’s team. Kohli was also awarded the Man of the Match award for this innings. This has been Kohli’s first man of the match award after 2020. Kohli mentioned the 90 minutes after the match which helped him to return to form.
Kohli said after the match, “It was an important game for us, I was unhappy that I was not able to do anything for the team, it was bothering me more than the statistics. Today was a game where I played for the team. Made an impact. Got the team in good shape. Expectations are made of you because of your performance. You need to keep your attitude right. You can forget the process to live up to the expectations. I worked really hard I batted non-stop for 90 minutes in the nets yesterday.”
Virat Kohli has scored only two fifties in IPL 2022 and both of these Fifties have come against Gujarat Titans. Earlier, Kohli had played an innings of 58 runs against this team.
Talking about the competition, while batting first, Gujarat Titans scored 168 runs with the help of captain Hardik Pandya’s half-century. Chasing this score, Kohli and Du Plessis (44) put on 115 runs for the first wicket, giving a blazing start to RCB. After this, Glenn Maxwell completed the innings by playing an innings of 40 runs in 18 balls. RCB had achieved this score with 8 balls to spare.
