Kolkata Knight Riders made a strong comeback in the Indian Premier League 2021 and traveled to the final match, but this season the team failed to make a comeback. KKR won only six out of 14 matches and with this the team’s dream of reaching the playoffs was also shattered. Rinku Singh has proved to be a big find for KKR in a disappointing season. Rinku was included in the playing XI in the last matches and has impressed head coach Brendon McCullum with his performance.
Describing Rinku as the discovery of IPL 2022, McCullum said that KKR will keep an eye on his game in the coming few years. Rinku hit 40 off 15 balls in the match played against Lucknow Super Giants on Wednesday and almost took the team closer to victory. McCullum, who is set to take over as England’s next Test coach, said after the match: “Definitely he (Rinku) has been our find of the season.” Rinku is one player that KKR will focus on in the coming few years, there is no doubt about it and we will really see her grow.
Lucknow Super Giants had given a target of 211 runs to KKR, in response, KKR’s team could only manage 208 runs for eight wickets in 20 overs. 21 runs were needed to win in the last over and Rinku Singh scored 18 runs in the first four balls of Marcus Stonis’ over to make the gap of victory to just three runs. On the fifth ball, Evin Lewis took a brilliant catch of Rinku and turned the dice of the match.
