New Delhi. England all-rounder Chris Jordan has replaced his teammate Jofra Archer in the Mumbai Indians (MI) squad for the remaining Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 season. Chris Jordan will join the five-time champions Mumbai Indians for Rs 2 crore and will be available for their next match against Royal Challengers Bangalore on Tuesday night i.e. May 9 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Chris Jordan went unsold in the IPL auction. England fast bowler Joffra Archer was struggling with fitness problem for a long time.
Mumbai Indians bought Joffra Archer in the auction for eight crore rupees, but he could take two wickets in just five matches this season. He has been away from international cricket for the last two years due to Kohli’s injury. Archer did not play in the IPL last year as well. It is being told that the England and Wales Cricket Board will keep an eye on Archer’s fitness and recovery.

A release issued by the IPL said, “Mumbai Indians (MI) on Tuesday included Chris Jordan in the squad for the remaining matches of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 in place of the injured Jofra Archer.” Chris Jordan, who made his IPL debut in 2016, has played 28 IPL matches so far and has 27 wickets to his name. The speedster has represented England in 87 T20 Internationals and has taken 96 wickets.
Jofra Archer managed to play only 5 out of 10 matches for Mumbai Indians in this season of IPL. His economy rate was 9.5 and average was 95. Talking about Jofra Archer’s overall IPL career, he has taken 48 wickets in 40 matches so far. He was bought by Mumbai Indians in the mega auction of IPL 2022 for Rs 8 crore. After joining Mumbai Indians, he has been able to play only a few matches for the team.
In the absence of pacer Jasprit Bumrah, Jofra Archer was expected to lead the Rohit Sharma-led Mumbai Indians bowling attack. Jasprit Bumrah is missing for the entire 2023 season due to a back injury. But after Bumrah, even Archer could not do anything for Mumbai Indians.
