Rajasthan Royals filled all their 9 vacant slots
Jason Holder bought the most for Rs 5.75 crore
new Delhi. The performance of Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2022 was excellent. After winning the title in 2008, the team played the final for the first time. It is a different matter that she missed out on winning the title. But, the performance of this team under the leadership of Sanju Samson was excellent. Before the mini auction of IPL 2023, the team had retained its core players i.e. the winning combination. A total of 16 players were retained while 9 were released. There was not much money in the purse of the team either. Rajasthan Royals had the lowest purse of Rs 13.20 crore after Kolkata Knight Riders (7.05 crore), RCB (8.75 crore). Despite this the team filled all its 9 vacant slots. Rajasthan bought five of these players in the last round. For this the team spent Rs 9.85 crore. Rs 3.35 crore was saved in the purse of the team.
Rajasthan needed roughly two types of players in the auction. One middle order batsman and the other a dashing all-rounder. There was not much money in the purse of the team. For this reason, Rajasthan Royals could not buy all-rounders like Sam Karen, Ben Stokes or Cameron Green. But, the team was successful in adding a good all-rounder in the form of Jason Holder. The team spent half of its purse on the holder itself. Holder was bought by Rajasthan Royals for Rs 5.75 crore. His base price was Rs 2 crore. Holder will also strengthen Rajasthan’s batting in the lower order along with bowling.
Root will strengthen batting in middle order
Apart from this, the team needed a strong batsman in the middle order. The team worked hard to fulfill this search in the form of Harry Brooke. At one time it seemed that the team would empty its entire purse on buying this player. But, in the end Brooke was bought by Sunrisers Hyderabad. In such a situation, the team completed the search for a strong batter in the middle order by buying Joe Root in the last phase of the auction. Root was bought by Rajasthan at the base price of 1 crore only. They are sold at auction for the first time. Root can play the role of anchor in this team.
Buying two leg spinners is beyond comprehension
Apart from this, Rajasthan Royals bought another leg-spinner in the form of Adam Zampa. The team added Zampa with itself in the base price of 1.5 crores. Rajasthan already has a leg-spinner in the form of Yuzvendra Chahal. At the same time, the team also bought M Ashwin. He is also a leg spinner. The decision to buy two leg spinners is shocking. At the same time, the team bought two wicketkeeper batsmen. This includes wicket-keeper batsman Donovan Ferreira of South Africa and Kunal Singh Rathore of India. While the team already includes wicketkeeper batter in the form of Sanju Samson and Jose Butler.
The team had good fast bowlers in the form of Trent Boult and the famous Krishna. The team needed two pacers. One foreigner and one Indian in it. So the team has made up for it by buying Holder and KM Asif.
