In an interview given to Hindustan Times, Dilip Vengsarkar has taken a dig at the selectors and the BCCI. He said that in the last 6-7 years, the selectors did nothing to make Team India of the future. The focus of the board was only on earning money. Vengsarkar said, “Unfortunately, the selectors I have seen in the last few years had neither vision, nor deep understanding of the game, nor sense. He made Shikhar Dhawan the captain when Team India was touring two countries simultaneously and the big players were unavailable for any tour. This was such an opportunity when you could prepare the future captain.

Expressing his unhappiness against the selectors, Dilip Vengsarkar said, “The entire focus of the BCCI is on the Indian Premier League. The selectors did not prepare the future captain during this period. Just as the tournament is coming, you are playing. You talk about the richest cricket board. Where is your bench strength? Nothing will happen just by conducting IPL and earning crores of rupees from media rights. This should be the achievement.
