New Delhi. In the 14th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL-2021), Chennai Super Kings has cut the playoff ticket but the season was not good for its captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni (MS Dhoni) with the bat. In the last season also he was not able to perform well. So far this season, Dhoni has been able to score only 96 runs in 14 matches at an average of 13.71 and strike rate of 95.04. His former teammate Irfan Pathan expressed disappointment over Dhoni’s form. Pathan also discussed the things that are seen due to Dhoni’s dismissal in the last few matches.
In the last league match of the season of Chennai Super Kings, Dhoni was dismissed by Punjab Kings spinner Ravi Bishnoi. Dhoni failed to read Bishnoi’s googly and returned to the pavilion after getting bold. The former Indian captain went for a drive but the ball touched the edge of the bat and hit the stumps. Pathan said that Dhoni was out on Varun Chakraborty’s googly earlier in the match. Interestingly, Chakraborty has dismissed Dhoni thrice in the last two seasons of the IPL.
Pathan said on Star Sports, ‘It is very disappointing to see Dhoni batting like this. If you get out against fast bowlers, it is understandable but Dhoni is not able to read the googly. This has happened time and again. Not that this is the first time this has happened. He could not even read the googly against Varun Chakraborty and got out.
Apart from this, the former all-rounder explained that there are some issues that Dhoni is going through. He revealed that Dhoni is using the lower arm which took his wicket. He said, ‘It has been seen before that when the ball is coming on the stumps and they are not getting a chance to release their hands, then there is a problem. Here again the ball was coming from outside the off-stump, it got the inside edge, that’s what happens when you use the bottom hand a lot.
