Jason Holder added to West Indies T20 World Cup squad after injury rules out Obed McCoy


New Delhi. All-rounder Jason Holder has been included in the West Indies squad for the T20 World Cup in place of injured fast bowler Obed McCoy. The decision was taken after getting approval from the technical committee of the tournament. Two-time world champion West Indies have lost both their matches so far in the Super-12 stage of the T20 World Cup. He has to play his next match against Bangladesh in Sharjah on Friday.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) said in its statement, “Holder, who played a total of 199 international matches including 27 T20 matches for West Indies, has been taken in place of McCoy. McCoy was ruled out due to a leg injury. Teams have been allowed to travel with additional players in view of the need to be in quarantine during Kovid-19 and Holder was with the team as a reserve player.

29-year-old Jason Holder has also been the captain of the West Indies cricket team. He plays for Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Indian Premier League (IPL). In the second phase of the IPL, Holder bowled amazingly in the UAE. He took 13 wickets in seven matches. Holder has taken 137 wickets in 154 T20 matches. Apart from this, 1361 runs have also been scored at a strike rate of 127.

Embarrassing performance of the star-studded Caribbean team so far
The defending champion West Indies team has made a very poor start in the T20 World Cup. In the first match against England, the Caribbean team was reduced to just 55 runs and were defeated by 6 wickets. On Tuesday, South Africa defeated West Indies by 8 wickets in a one-sided match. The team had also lost in both the practice matches of the tournament. That is, the team has lost 4 consecutive matches.
