New Delhi. Vidarbha and Punjab Kings wicketkeeper-batsman Jitesh Sharma has given the reason behind wearing the number 99 jersey in IPL. Jitesh impressed a lot while performing well in the last season of IPL. He has now told why he chose Sourav Ganguly’s number jersey. He described himself as a big fan of Sourav Ganguly and also said that his father also likes this veteran very much.
Jitesh Sharma, however, during his playing days Sourav Ganguly Didn’t see much but heard a lot about this left-handed former Indian captain from his father. Jitesh said that he is very much like Ganguly who does not like the opposition to dominate himself and always plays for the team.
Jitesh Sharma said in a show with Dr Yash, ‘Since childhood I have been a big fan of Sourav Ganguly. Even though I didn’t see him play a lot, my father used to talk about him a lot. He used to say that Dada (Ganguly) is a tiger. He is someone who changed Indian cricket and its attitude.
Ganguly is the icon player of Indian cricket and one of the most successful captains. He is known to have changed the face of the Indian team since becoming captain in 2000, leading India to some historic titles such as the shared 2002 ICC Champions Trophy in Sri Lanka and the 2002 NatWest Series in England.
Jitesh further said, ‘Also, I liked his aggressive style. He was the first to fight for the team whenever everyone was silent, and India could not dominate the overseas grounds. I think my nature is very similar to him. I don’t like it whenever someone tries to dominate me. I always play for my team and want us to win. So because of him, I decided to wear the number 99 jersey.
Playing for Punjab Kings in the last season of the Indian Premier League (IPL-2022), Sharma scored 234 runs in 12 matches at an impressive strike rate of 163.64. He also played a vital role behind the stumps as he took 9 catches and stumped 2 players.
