New Delhi. Umran Malik….This name is the most discussed in Indian cricket right now. There is a good reason for this, because Umran has consistently bowled at a speed of 150 kmph in IPL 2022. He threw the fastest ball at a speed of 157 kilometers per hour. Along with bowling at speed, he was also successful in taking 22 wickets in this season of IPL. On the basis of this performance, he got a call from Team India for the 5 T20 series against South Africa. However, this 22-year-old bowler did not get a chance to debut in the first T20. Kapil Dev is also very impressed with the speed of Umran. But he advised this bowler to work on keeping his economy rate low.
Kapil Dev said on Uncut YouTube channel, “I am very happy with the selection of Umran. But it is too early… you have to give him at least two-three years time for any player at this level. Then you can assess it. We praise a player a lot in the beginning and after a year he disappears. But, there is no dearth of talent in Umran. I want Umran to keep himself in a good environment and continue his hard work. Looking at his potential, I don’t think he lacks in anything. He only has to talk to good bowlers and watch video footage of their bowling to move forward.
Umran has to reduce his economy rate: Kapil
Kapil further said, “If you are bowling at more than 150 kmph, then economy of 9 is not a good thing. It should be around 6 or 7 runs per over. Umran has to rectify this. For this, he will have to use yorkers more. One has to read the mind of the batsman as well. But all these things start to make sense with time. Umran’s bowling will definitely improve because he is bowling against good batsmen. Hopefully Umran’s economy rate will also improve.”
Even though Umran is in the headlines at the moment. But, before the start of the T20 series against South Africa, head coach Rahul Dravid had indicated that Umran may take some more time to debut for India.
