England’s star all-rounder Ben Stokes has said goodbye to One Day International cricket. Stokes played his last One Day International (ODI) match against South Africa on Tuesday. Since this decision of Stokes, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has been on the target of former cricketers. Former all-rounder Kevin Pietersen has also lashed out at the ECB. After Stokes’ retirement from ODIs, Pietersen said that when he retired from One Day Internationals, the ECB had also banned him from playing T20 Internationals.

Stokes retired saying that it is difficult to give his 100 per cent in all three formats in the kind of schedule and that is why he decided to retire from One Day International cricket. Stokes is currently the captain of the England Test team. Pietersen wrote on Twitter, ‘I once said that the schedule is too dangerous and I will not be able to play like this. That’s why I announced my retirement from One Day Internationals and then the ECB banned me from playing T20 Internationals as well.

Pietersen took the decision to retire from One Day Internationals in May 2012. It is becoming increasingly difficult for the legendary cricketers around the world to play in all three formats of cricket continuously. Now it is to be seen that after this decision of Stokes, will the ECB allow him to play in the T20 format further or will he be in the same condition as Kevin Pietersen?
